Bears of Katmai - A Gallery

The Bears of Katmai Trip is a longtime favorite on my schedule. I time it every year to happen around the peak of the salmon run in the Brooks River, and it’s a perfect time for the classic shots of the falls. But it’s the time in Homer, and the day trip to the coast of Lake Clark National Park that are often my favorite events of the trip. The landscape of the southern Kenai Peninsula is as dramatic as it gets, and there is nothing quite like hanging out with brown bears, on foot.
